As a small business owner, you wear many hats. Finding time for marketing can feel overwhelming — that’s why we’ve created a simple monthly checklist to help you focus on what matters most, in small, bite-sized chunks.

One of the easiest (and most overlooked) tools you can use is Google My Business (GMB), now called your Google Business Profile.

Think of it as your online storefront. When someone searches for a landscaper,

hairdresser, or restaurant near them, your GMB page is often the first thing they see. If it’s outdated, incomplete, or missing, you’re losing customers to your competitors.

Here’s your October Marketing Checklist to get your GMB in shape:

What is Google My Business?

  • It’s your free business listing on Google.

  • Displays your name, address, phone number, website, and reviews.

  • Helps customers find you quickly when they search for your service.

Why It’s Important

  • Local visibility: Appear in Google Maps and local search results.

  • Trust factor: A complete profile with reviews builds customer confidence.

  • More leads: The easier it is to contact you, the more calls you’ll get.

If You Don’t Have One

  • Go to google.com/business.

  • Claim your business and verify ownership.

  • Add basic info: name, address, phone number, and website.

Clean Up Your Profile (This Month)

  • Check accuracy: Hours, phone number, website — keep them correct.

  • Add photos: Before/after jobs, team shots, trucks, or tools.

  • Reply to reviews: Thank happy customers and respond politely to negatives.

  • Update services: List exactly what you do so Google shows you in more searches.

Pro tip: Use tools like ChatGPT to help you write a strong business description.

Monthly Maintenance (Every Month Going Forward)

  • Post updates: Seasonal tips, promotions, or recent projects.

  • Add fresh photos: Customers trust current, real pictures.

  • Ask for reviews: Send a quick text or email link to happy clients.

  • Check insights: See how many people viewed, called, or clicked.

Action Step

This month, block out one hour to claim, clean, or refresh your Google My Business page. It’s free, simple, and can bring in more leads than many paid ads
